Fencing that is still standing in five years
Fences almost never fail in the middle of a panel; they fail at the post. Posts need to go deep enough, be set properly, and have the timber kept clear of standing soil — and on a boundary that runs downhill the gravel boards and the panel heights have to be stepped rather than fudged. We replace like for like where you want the garden unchanged, and can build closeboard, slatted screens, trellis or bespoke panels where you would rather it looked different. Where a fence sits on a shared boundary it is worth a word with the neighbour first, and we are happy to be there for that conversation.
Decking, pergolas and screening
Decking in a London garden lives in the shade for half the year, which is what makes it slippery. Softwood is the cheapest and needs the most looking after, hardwood lasts longest and looks best, composite asks for almost nothing once it is down. We build the frame to take real weight, leave the drainage gaps that stop boards cupping, and can run lighting into the structure while it is open. Pergolas, privacy screening above a low wall and trellis all follow the same logic — built to the garden you have, not to a kit.
Sheds, greenhouses and garden offices
A garden office is the one that needs the most thought: a level base, a floor that stays dry, insulation that makes it usable in February, and power run out to it safely by an electrician. Sheds and greenhouses are simpler but the base matters just as much — most shed failures are a rotten floor, not a rotten wall. We build from scratch or assemble and finish what you have bought.
Selling this year?
The garden is in the photographs, and a leaning fence or a green deck undoes a lot of work done indoors. A new fence, a cleaned and re-oiled deck and a tidy shed photograph better than almost anything else you can spend the same money on outside.
