Very few bedrooms round here are a simple rectangle. Victorian and Edwardian houses have a chimney breast with an alcove either side, and those alcoves are almost never the same width. A free-standing wardrobe put in one of them leaves a gap down each side, dead space on top and a few inches behind — a fitted one uses the full height and depth of the wall instead. Loft conversions bring sloping ceilings, where the only way to get hanging space is to build into the slope. And the 1930s semis towards Raynes Park and Motspur Park have deep bay windows and picture rails that a wardrobe has to work around rather than cover up. We measure all of it on site, so nothing is guessed.
Hand-painted, not flat-packed
Our wardrobes are built in MDF and hand-painted on site, most often in Shaker style — a plain frame, clean lines, no fuss. Painting on site rather than spraying in a workshop means the finish carries on into the room: the same colour on the wardrobe, the skirting and the door frames if you want it, and any marks from installation made good before we leave. We work in Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Dulux Trade, and can colour-match a premium shade onto a trade base where budget matters. Doors, handles, internal shelving, hanging rails and drawers are all decided with you before we start.
How the job runs
We visit, measure and talk through what you need to store — that conversation is what stops a wardrobe being beautiful and useless. You get a fixed price in writing before anything is ordered. Building happens on site over a few days, which means small changes are still possible while the work is going on rather than after it. Floors and furniture are covered, and the room is left clean at the end of each day. Fully insured.
